For those who are heading into Year 3 at Hogwarts, here are the new locations, classes, free energy sources, and more they will find in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.
New Locations
Once again, some of the biggest changes in Year 3 come in the form of new locations to explore. For example, players now visit the Library, which is located at Lower Floor - East, right next to the Transfiguration Classroom. Outside of story missions and side quests, the Library doesn’t have much of interest, but it’s still a new place to check out regardless.
In Chapter 2 of Year 3, players will also unlock the ability to travel to Hogsmeade. Hogsmeade is a small town located near Hogwarts that students often travel to, and it comes with its own little shops to explore. In Year 3, players can check out The Three Broomsticks and Zonko’s Joke Shop, with other businesses made available in later years.
Free Energy
Like the other main areas players can explore in the game, Hogsmeade comes with its own free energy source that players can take advantage of a few times a day. To find the free energy in Hogsmeade, check out the alley between The Three Broomsticks and Honkeydukes to spot a student with a sled. Tap on this student for the free energy source.
It’s also worth mentioning that, as of the update that added more Year 3 story chapters to the game, Peeves the Poltergeist is now a free energy source as well. Better yet, Peeves isn’t even exclusive to Year 3 students, meaning anyone should be able to tap on him to get free energy and speed up their Hogwarts adventure. To find Peeves, visit the East Towers and he will be located between the Astronomy Tower’s spiral staircase and the ladder that leads to the Divination Classroom.
New Classes
Whereas Year 2 added Transfiguration class to the curriculum, Year 3 adds Herbology. Despite being a new class, though, the rewards for Herbology are largely the same as the rewards for most of the other classes in the game.
Below is a list of all the Year 3 classes and rewards for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

New Friends
Once players reach Year 3 in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, they will also have the chance to meet three new friends. Friends can be leveled up at specific points in the game to earn free gems, and players sometimes have the choice of which friends to take with them on quests.
The three new friends players can meet in Year 3 are Nymphadora Tonks of Hufflepuff, Tulip Karasu of Ravenclaw, and Barnaby Lee of Slytherin. Barnaby Lee is the first Slytherin student that players can befriend in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, though he starts out as one of Merula’s cronies.
House Cup
Just like Year 2 raised the stakes for the House Cup from 100 gems to 125, winning the House Cup in Year 3 will yield even greater rewards. If players win the House Cup in Year 3, they will unlock a whopping 150 gems, which should allow them to buy plenty of energy to progress through the game much quicker.
At the time of this writing, it’s not even clear if the entirety of Year 3 is available for players just yet, so it’s possible that even more Year 3 content is on the way soon. In the meantime, we know that developer Jam City is already looking ahead to the future of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, as it recently released an update that revealed the Forbidden Forest as a new location for Year 4, along with Andre Egwu and Charlie Weasley as new friends.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
