With its latest update, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has added three new cat skins, two rat skins, two toad skins, and two owl skins. The skins can be purchased with coins or gems, which can be earned in-game as well as purchased with real money. Coins are fairly easy to come by in Hogwarts Mystery, but gems are another story, and while there are ways to get free gems, the only realistic way to have a significant amount of them is to buy them.

To put things into perspective, there is one cat skin that costs 300 gems. Players can get  275 gems for $9.99, meaning the cat skin effectively costs more than $10. Granted, there are some added benefits for purchasing skins like attribute points, but even so, that makes for one rather expensive cosmetic item.

Besides giving players the opportunity to get new skins for their pets, the latest update for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery lets them customize pets in another way as well. Players can now edit the names of their pets, and they will notice that the game automatically names their pets for them until the name is changed. Any Hogwarts Mystery players interested in customizing their pets can change the names of their pets and swap skins through the avatar customization menu.

Like when pets were added to the game, it seems as though pet customization is going to be a polarizing feature for fans of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery due to the high prices associated with the skins. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if even more pet skins are added to the game in the future.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
